SUMMARY

 
We are seeking an International Agribusiness Intern to work as a Junior Project Manager who will be primarily responsible for supporting the principals in a Teak farming and production project, to include planning, research, implementing, and acquiring an international property in Panama.  The project goal is to develop a sustainable Teak business with responsible forest management to help create jobs, improve the livelihood of the community, while benefiting flora and fauna.  All travel expenses, housing, and food are paid for while in Panama.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
Ø Undertake market analysis of Teak wood worldwide and research the current and
future demand and supply of Teak.
 
Ø Research legislation relevant to the development and management of the
wood supply and demand, may include ANAM (National Environmental Authority) certification, International Tropical Timber and other nonprofits, sawmills, pricing and taxes, etc.
 
Ø Conduct market research by interviewing Teak farmers and analyze data to compile information to produce reports.
 
Ø Develop a business plan and consult with major stakeholders, farmers, government
officials and the private sector in areas of agriculture and reforestation.
 
Ø Identify and explain the financing, marketing and management of procuring &
selling Teak.
 
Ø Research training and enhance skills related to the design, acquisition and
implementation of the Teak farm.
 
Ø Improve or promote quantity of work while adhering to quality company standards by demonstrating accuracy, thoroughness, timeliness, and attention to detail.  
 
Ø Research and interpret national and international laws, rules, policies, procedures, or systems related to the project and non-citizens of Panama.
 
Ø Track and report project activity and data in automated systems and other required records to implement a profitable and sustainable Teak project.
 
 

REQUIREMENTS

 
Ø Any college major or degree .... however, the following would be a plus....Agribusiness, Agricultural Management, Crop Farm Management, Land Management, Environmental Resources, Agricultural Mathematics, Sustainable Forestry, Reforestation Forestry, Soil Engineering, or Agricultural Economic Policy and Market Analysis
 
Ø Must be at least a Junior or Senior, Graduate, or PhD student
 
Ø Bilingual in Spanish and English
 
Ø Must have valid Passport
 
Ø Able to travel to Panama for 2-6 weeks per trip throughout 3 month project beginning in early 2010
 
Ø Savvy internet skills with strong knowledge in research and analysis
 
Ø Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software applications
 
Ø Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage projects simultaneously to meet deadlines
 
Ø Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
 
Ø Ability to work independently and in strict confidence
 
Ø Must be physically fit to frequently travel and conduct occasional walking tours of farmlands, forests, and country-sides
 
Ø Able to pass criminal background check and drug testing
